Vintage 1984 Rodrigo Hernandez Costa Rican Campesino Wood Carving - Large 16.5" Folk Art Sculpture

Description:

For your consideration is a stunning, beautifully preserved vintage Costa Rican folk art wood carving by the celebrated regional artisan Rodrigo Hernandez, hand-signed and dated 1984 on the base.

This impressive piece depicts a traditional Central American "Campesino" (country farmer) resting on a log. It features exceptional, expressive craftsmanship, integrating the natural contours and grain of raw wood branches into the rustic base. The figure comes complete with his traditional attire—including a molded wide-brimmed hat, neckerchief, and his original carved wood-handled axe accessory.

Standing at 16.5 inches tall, this is a significantly larger and more substantial example than the typical 12-to-13-inch figures commonly found by this artist, making it a spectacular statement piece for any collector of global folk art or rustic decor.
