What is Sabbia?
Sabbia by Silk Plaster is a decorative pearlescent sand paint. It gives walls a light sand-dune effect with a soft pearl sheen and a deep, tactile relief - calm enough for minimalist rooms, rich enough for luxurious ones.
- Sand-dune, pearlescent and structural effects; seamless, even surface that can be applied by hand or by machine
- Water-based, odourless, free of organic solvents and formaldehyde; vapour-permeable, so walls can breathe
- Moisture-resistant and washable once fully cured; does not yellow; local repairs are possible
- For interior walls, ceilings, arches, columns and architectural details; easy for DIY users
This is not ordinary emulsion. Sabbia is worked into the wall with a decorative brush (or a trowel) to create the effect - it is not simply rolled on.
Sizes and coverage (approximate)
- 0.9 L - approx. 7-9 m²
- 1.5 L - approx. 12-15 m²
- 2 L - approx. 16-20 m²
- 2.5 L - approx. 20-25 m²
- Sample 80-100 g - test the real colour and texture on your own wall
- Sample 80-100 g + small board - the sample with a small board, so you can try the colour on the board and move it around the room
As a guide Sabbia covers about 8-10 m² per litre per coat; real coverage depends on the wall, the tool and your technique (approx. 0.11-0.14 L per m²).
Optional: white primer
Sabbia looks best on a primed wall. Silk Plaster Base T is a white primer developed for decorative acrylic paints such as Nappa, Sabbia and Seta: it gives an even white base, improves adhesion and reduces the absorbency of the wall. Apply two coats with a roller on a clean, dry, stable wall and let the first coat dry fully. Coverage about 10 m² per litre. Choose the size in the "White primer" menu and it is added to your order.
- 1 L - approx. 10 m²
- 1.5 L - approx. 15 m²
- 2 L - approx. 20 m²
- 2.5 L - approx. 25 m²
Optional: tools
- Decorative brush - for applying Sabbia - the main tool for the sand-dune pattern.
- Venetian trowel - small (20 x 8 cm) - stainless steel, made in Italy; a compact blade for corners, edges and smaller areas.
- Venetian trowel - middle size (24 x 9.5 cm) - polished stainless steel, trapezoid blade with rounded corners, made in Italy; the all-round trowel for walls of any size.
- Black Mamba INOX Venetian trowel (28 x 12 cm) - professional stainless-steel trowel with a wide blade for the smoothest, finest finish.
Photos of the tools are in the gallery.
How to apply Sabbia
- Prepare the wall. The surface must be clean, dry, smooth, sound and free of dust, grease and mould. Prime it - Silk Plaster Base T is recommended.
- Mix. Stir gently at low speed until the paint is uniform. Sabbia is ready to use - no dilution needed.
- Apply. Start in the top left corner and work towards the bottom right, in sections of about 1-1.5 m², always on a wet edge. Use a decorative brush with sweeping, circular or broken strokes and cover the whole section evenly.
- Create the pattern. While the paint is wet, use light brush movements to form the direction and pattern you want. If it starts to dry, mist it lightly with water from a spray bottle.
- Second coat. Normally one or two coats are used. Let the first coat dry fully (about 6 hours) before a second one.
Technical data
- Application temperature +10 to +30 °C, air humidity up to 65% (keep it stable for 2 days before and 12 days after the work); avoid direct sun, draughts and moisture for 3 days.
- Working time about 10 minutes, touch dry in about 1 hour, fully dry in 24 hours (at +22 °C). Full strength and washability after about 28 days.
- Water-based acrylic dispersion with pearlescent pigments and mineral fillers. Clean tools with water straight after use.
- Interior use. Made in Latvia to EU quality standards.
Good to know
