Up for online auction is a complete, highly collectible 4-piece set of vintage 1990 Peabody Coal Company (West Virginia Division) belt buckles. These buckles were originally awarded to miners quarterly as safety achievement awards for maintaining an accident-free record throughout the year.
Because it is hard to find all four matching quarters together, this intact set holds a premium for industrial, mining, and regional West Virginia history collectors.
Each buckle represents a specific quarter and features an incredibly detailed, high-relief scene showcasing different aspects of the West Virginia mining operations:
• 1st Quarter: Underground longwall mining shearer with an operating miner.
• 2nd Quarter: Surface mining operations featuring a large shovel excavator.
• 3rd Quarter: Above-ground coal preparation plant and processing facilities.
• 4th Quarter: Underground continuous miner machine at the coal face.
The reverse sides are fully marked and authenticated, stamped with © PROMARK INC. 1990 on the prong assembly. The center plates feature a dedicated safety message and the engraved signature of John M. Clean, President of the West Virginia Division.
