2003 Mazda MX-5 NB 1.6 Manual – Spares or Repairs / Restoration Project

Unfortunately, I'm selling my 2003 Mazda MX-5 1.6 as I originally purchased it with the intention of restoring it myself, but due to financial circumstances I can no longer afford to carry out the work.
The vehicle starts, runs and moves under its own power. However, it has no MOT, is not roadworthy and requires substantial repairs.
Good Points
- 1.6-litre petrol engine, 5-speed manual, rear-wheel drive.
- 105,950 miles indicated.
- Engine starts and runs.
- New battery fitted.
- New windscreen wiper blades.
- Aftermarket multi-spoke alloy wheels.
- Large aftermarket rear spoiler.
- Aftermarket air intake.
- Aftermarket steering wheel and gear knob.
- JVC aftermarket stereo.
- Silver paintwork generally presentable from a distance.
- V5C logbook present and registered in my name.
Known Faults and Issues
- Extensive structural corrosion affecting the inner and outer sills, including large rust holes and deteriorated metal.
- Additional rust around the rear wheel arches.
- Convertible soft top is in poor condition, with tears and damaged stitching.
- Engine idle fluctuates between approximately 500–1,500 RPM without touching the accelerator. Occasionally catches itself before stalling, but sometimes cuts out completely.
- Handbrake requires attention.
- Aftermarket steering wheel fitted, but horn does not function.
- Possible braking issue that has not been diagnosed.
- Driver's seat has significant wear.
- Peeling paint/lacquer on the wing mirrors.
- Cloudy headlights and general cosmetic imperfections.
- Other faults may be present.
Important Information
This vehicle is being sold strictly as a restoration project or for spares and repairs.
The corrosion is extensive and the full condition of the underlying structure has not been established.
The car will require significant work before it can be considered safe and roadworthy.
I have included detailed photographs showing the vehicle's condition, particularly the corrosion.
Viewings are welcome by prior arrangement.
Collection by trailer or recovery vehicle only. No road test drives.
Reason for Sale
I genuinely wanted to restore this MX-5, but unfortunately I no longer have the finances to continue with the project.
I'd rather see it go to someone who has the time, tools and experience to restore it or make use of its parts.
