About Corning Opelle Giftware & Material:
Produced by Corning Glass Works between 1983 and 1994, the Opelle line is famous for using a high-tech, space-age material called "FotoForm" photosensitive glass-ceramic.
While it is technically a glass product, it goes through a special heat and light process that transforms it into a solid, milky-white opaque material. It does not look like clear window glass—instead, it has the gorgeous, smooth, matte texture and delicate appearance of fine white porcelain or china.
Through a highly precise chemical-etching process, Corning was able to create razor-thin silhouettes with mind-boggling, lace-like filigree details. Most of these special corporate pieces were made in incredibly limited numbers as exclusive gifts for Corning employees and VIP clients.
