Arrow Films Thunderbirds 8mm Releases
In 1965, Arrow Films released the very first home-viewing editions of Thunderbirds on reel-to-reel formats. Because home video (like VHS) did not exist yet, these short 8mm reels were the only way fans could watch the show at home.
• The Reel Format: The release highlighted on the packaging is Standard 8 (Colour). It is a silent, short-cut summary film (usually around 45 to 50 feet long) rather than a full episode.
• The Titles: Arrow Films launched these initial sets with a very small selection of episodes split into highlight reels, most notably Lady Penelope's Triumph (extracted from the pilot episode Trapped in the Sky) and Attack of the Alligators.
• Variants: These 1960s editions initially used the Arrow "arrowhead" logo packaging before transitioning to the "fletching" logo for Super 8 versions later in the decade
A few issues here:
1. The film I have looks to be Attack of the Alligators or Trapped in the Sky - not Lady Penelope's Triumph. The packaging I have was from the same sale, but it still has a cardboard base, so I think I've missed the Triumph film and there was another in the same seller's items
I don't know which, as I can only find two instances of this image, and one says Attack, the other Trapped
2. It's all, obviously, in a state, but someone may be looking for it, and I've started it very low!
NB The film has the tiniest bit of white on a few strands of the tape, but I can't play it - doesn't look very serious to me!
