Why gardeners choose our willow

Fast. Up to 3 metres in a year, then it keeps that height and throws up new shoots from the base for a thick bottom.
Easy. Extremely easy to grow. Push the cuttings into wet ground and they generate their own roots.
Fun. Create dens, wigwams, teepees and tunnels.
Privacy. Create fedges (fence/hedge), acoustic and visual screens, and trellis.
Artistic. Create obelisks and structures.
Useful. Create raised beds and hurdles. Reduce river bank erosion.
Hardy across the UK.

How to plant

1
Keep them in a bucket of water until you plant.
2
Push in at least 20cm (9in) deep. 30cm (12in) is best. Plant while the cuttings are not in leaf.
3
Keep them wet at all times until the roots form. This takes a couple of months, depending on the season. Willow only grows if it has somewhere wet.
4
Choose your moment. The best time to plant is October to early April.
Shorter cuttings: with a 30cm cutting most of it is underground, leaving very little to grow leaves, so keep the area completely weed free. Shorter cuttings cost less, so for a large area it can be very cost effective to buy them and spend the time weeding.

Good to know

Pruning. For more side branches from a branch, cut it back in the winter. To stop a branch growing or reduce its length, cut it back in the summer.
Size. Up to 7 metres (24 feet) after four growing seasons. It will not grow much higher than 9 metres (28 to 30 feet), and pruning keeps it shorter.
Roots. Willow roots look for water. If you plan to plant near a house, get advice from an expert such as a structural engineer, or bury the pot to stop its roots getting out.
Variety. This listing is for Goat willow.
Organic? We are not registered as organic as we choose not to pay the schemes for their logos. We do not use anything on our soil or willows that would be counted as non-organic. We see ourselves as organic but we can't state it in our listings.
Willow catkins
Great for wildlife. Willow is one of the UK's first trees to flower, which matters for bees and other pollinators. It is one of the very best trees for supporting insect species, so it is attractive to birds and other wildlife. Our bees thrive on the pollen.

About us

We have been growing willows for many generations and have been selling on eBay since 1999. Ask us anything about willow and planting it. We have over 100,000 growing at our main site, and we have been eBay's most popular (and largest) willow seller for many years. Many other sellers have bought their stock from us.

Schools, theatres and TV and media companies: if you need special invoicing, get in touch from your organisation's email address and we can help.
