Louis “King” Garcia Autographed check
This is a check from the account of entertainer Rudy Vallee made payable to Lou Garcia. The check is dated December 8, 1930 and signed by Lou Garcia on the back
Louis "King" Garcia (1905-1983) was a highly regarded jazz and dance orchestra trumpeter whose brilliant brass work defined much of the early swing era.
Born in Puerto Rico on August 25, 1905, Garcia began playing the trumpet during his high school years. He honed his skills in the Municipal Band of San Juan under the direction of Manuel Tizol (the uncle of Duke Ellington's legendary trombonist, Juan Tizol).
After a brief stint with the Victor Recording Orchestra, Garcia relocated to the United States in the early 1920s and quickly became a fixture in the bustling New York music scene. He worked with The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Emil Coleman, The Dorsey Brothers, Louis Prima, Vic Berton, Richard Himber, Nat Brandwyne, and Amanda Randolph.
He fronted his own groups, recording tracks for the Bluebird label under the name Louis "King" Garcia & His Swingband, and later led his own Latin jazz ensembles during the 1940s

The check is also endorsed on the back by Kal Katz, who was Rudy Vallee's musical arranger at the time as having a second co-signer was common when cashing checks during the great depression as many banks, restaurants or hotels required a second signature as a way to guarantee payment
