Description
A vintage scarf clip by Sphinx, made in gold tone metal with black enamel detail.
The circular face has a rich Victorian Revival style design, with foliate and scroll decoration arranged around a central black enamel panel. The centre is finished with a radiating starburst motif, while pointed leaf forms extend around the outer edge.
The reverse is fitted with a circular spring clip designed to hold a scarf securely without the need for a pin.
The piece is unmarked but is a known Sphinx design.
Sphinx was a British costume jewellery manufacturer established in the late 1940s. The company became known for decorative statement jewellery and produced a wide range of brooches, necklaces, earrings and accessories in gilt metal, enamel and imitation stones.
Condition
Good vintage condition with age related wear.
There is rubbing to the gold tone finish on some raised areas and wear to the gilt detail of the central starburst.
The spring clip remains strong and works correctly.
