PAIR VINTAGE CAST BRASS ROCOCO CHAMBERSTICKS
Bearded Mask Handles · Cast Brass · Rococo Revival Style · c. 1950s-1980s

A matched pair of cast brass chamberstick candle holders in the Rococo Revival style, made as mirror images of each other. Each has a leaf- or shell-shaped drip pan worked with acanthus scrolls, a shell and a cluster of roses, with a baluster stem and fluted urn-shaped candle cup. The scroll handles end in a cast bearded mask, a nice touch of old-world character.

WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL

• Pair, mirror-image and symmetrical
• Scroll handles end in a cast bearded male mask (satyr or grotesque face)
• Spiral-fluted central boss, baluster stem and fluted urn candle cup fixed by a threaded post
• Unmarked; of the decorative type made in Spain or Italy (origin not confirmed)
• Each approx. 7.4" long with handle, 4.4" wide and 3" tall

Lovely on a mantel, dining table or bedside, and ideal for anyone who enjoys ornate traditional brass.

CONDITION – Good vintage condition

• Recently polished bright, with darker patina left in the recesses
• A little white polish residue in some crevices
• Green verdigris and old wax inside the candle cups
• No breaks, bends or loose handles visible; light casting roughness underneath
