An early 20th-century Chinese embroidered silk evening purse, probably dating to the 1920s–1930s.

The cream-coloured silk ground is intricately worked with scrolling floral and foliate motifs in shades of blue, coral, green and gold, featuring fine knot embroidery reminiscent of traditional Chinese Peking knot or forbidden stitch, with metallic-thread detailing.

Fitted with an ornate pierced gilt-metal frame, embellished with a continuous row of polished green glass cabochons and finished with a traditional ball-ended kiss clasp.
The interior is lined in pale silk with a small internal pocket.

A decorative example of Chinese export embroidery from the early 20th century, displaying fine textile craftsmanship and an attractive combination of colours and textures.
