This work has been rebound in slightly later 18thC quarter calf with marbled boards. As can be seen from the images the binding is rather worn, rubbed, scuffed and the extremities are a little bumped and nicked. The spine extremities are surface worn and rubbed, with binding threads exposed at edges, and the hinges are worn and starting to split, a little thus the boards have a hint of movement. The spine is creased and worn, and the top and bottom edges are chipped and frayed with loss and headbands broken. Internally there is a previous owner's inscription to the front free endpaper. As can be seen from the images the frontispiece and title page, have had their margins trimmed away and been laid down. They are both a bit grubby and stained. The entire text block has been cropped/trimmed to edges throughout, more so to the fore edge margin of one of the prelim leaves,  which along with the other prelims are a bit chipped worn and frayed to edges. The cropping sometimes encroaches on the There is an ink name and date to the top of the dedication leaf. The contents have some grubbiness, smudging, staining, browning, thumbing and creasing throughout, with a few scattered edge chips. The text block is cracking and straining in places throughout.

[10], 412p. Lacking last leaf (p413/414)

Frontispiece and 3 further engraved plates.

A collection of Christian devotional writings translated into English by George Stanhope (1660–1728), an English clergyman who served as Dean of Canterbury Although the mediations are attributed to Saint Augustine of Hippo, scholars have since agreed that they are not authentically his work, rather, a collection of devotional texts associated with Augustine, Saint Anselm of Canterbury, and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. Aimed to encourage readers to deepen their relationship with God through prayer.
