Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870–1949), born in Shizuoka, Japan, was a leading Shin-hanga landscape print artist, alongside Kawase Hasui and Yoshida Hiroshi. He moved to Tokyo and studied under Kobayashi Kiyochika from 1886 to 1904. After spending a period away from art, he was recognized by publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō at a memorial exhibition for Kiyochika and gained recognition in the woodblock print world after the age of 60. He later collaborated with publisher Doi Teiichi to produce beautiful woodblock prints depicting Japanese landscapes.
