Japanese Bronze Sculpture of Two Pigeons by Hideaki Kabuki, Signed <ZQ88IKT>
A Japanese bronze sculpture by Hideaki Kabuki depicting two pigeons perched at different levels on a stylized rock formation.
The composition captures the birds in contrasting poses. The upper pigeon stands upright with its tail extended, while the lower bird raises and spreads its tail in a fan-like display, introducing a sense of movement to the otherwise balanced arrangement.
The birds are modeled with smoothly rounded bodies and carefully articulated wings and tail feathers. Subtle variations in the patinated metal surfaces are complemented by gilt accents defining the feather patterns, beaks, and feet. The restrained use of contrasting finishes emphasizes the sculptural forms and finely observed details.
The rock formation is treated in broad, angular planes, with a mottled patina of muted green and warm brown tones. Its faceted surfaces provide a strong structural contrast to the naturalistic modeling of the birds, bringing together stylized and representational elements within a unified composition.
An engraved signature of Hideaki Kabuki appears on the underside of one pigeon.
