Description
The Hunchback of Notre Dame, original pencil layout drawing of an overhead view of Quasimodo and Phoebus in the cemetery looking down at the entrance to the catacombs that led to the gypsy's secret Court of Miracles, used in the production of the 1996 Walt Disney animated feature film The Hunchback of Notre Dame, drawn on a 13 by 10 1/2 inch sheet of animation paper, in excellent condition. This is one of the key scenes in the movie. The sheet is unsigned but the image was drawn by Tom Shannon who worked at Disney for over 20 years as a layout artist in story development and would have created this drawing to illustrate one of the critical scenes in the Court of Miracles sequence of the script that was part of a workbook assigned to him. Tom Shannon's job was normally to develop visual story details including the design of details in characters. architecture, and backgrounds and the sequence of movements before the final script was approved and animation began. He worked on many Disney films including Aladdin, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King, and Mulan. This drawing comes from an estate sale of Tom Shannon held several years ago.
Tom Shannon was one of the major artists working on The Hunchback of Notre Dame. There are 13 of his drawings reproduced in the book The Art of The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Stephen Rebello.
