The Moth Hunters: Aboriginal prehistory of the Australian Alps, RARE 1980 1st ed

The rare first edition hardback in VGC - perfect as an unforgettable present for someone with a passion for this topic.

This book represents one of the most valuable historical accounts of the aboriginal tribes that occupied the lands in and around what is now the Capital of Australia, Canberra. The primary tribe involved were the Ngambri but they frequently played host to a number of visiting tribes that spoke the same language Ngunnawal. One of three attractions of the area at the time especially in the early nineteenth century was large numbers of moths that bred in the snowy mountains and flew into the area. This moth is quite large and carries a high level of proteins - the moth is the Bogong. The tribal groups literally hunted the large numbers of these moths that accumulated in the area. Its author, Josephine Flood AM, is an archaeologist, author and former director of the Aboriginal Heritage Section of the Australian Heritage Commission.
