The engine cover sits directly over the intake manifold and top center of the engine block. It is constructed from heat-resistant composite materials and lined with acoustic foam to suppress mechanical noise from the high-pressure fuel injectors and valvetrain. Beyond noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) control, the cover shields ignition coils, wiring harnesses, and sensors from dirt and incidental moisture. When this component fails, it is usually due to prolonged exposure to extreme engine bay heat, which causes the plastic to warp, crack, or lose its mounting tabs, resulting in a noticeable under-hood rattle.

Inspect the rubber mounting grommets on your engine before installing the replacement cover, as these frequently dry out, shrink, or tear due to heat cycling. Missing or hardened grommets will cause the new cover to vibrate against the engine block. Ensure your vehicle has the 4.4L twin-turbo V8, as this cover is molded specifically to accommodate the top-mounted turbocharger configuration (hot-V layout) and will not fit inline-six models.
