• Binding/Hinges: FAULTS PRESENT. The outer spine features a severe vertical split tracking down the front joint, leaving the front board structurally loose. The top spine head-cap has completely worn away, exposing the raw upper paper text block edges as pictured. The internal paper hinges are completely broken. Despite the structural splitting, the decorative gold gilt title stamping on the spine remains remarkably bright, crisp, and fully legible. An ideal candidate for a simple re-backing or restoration project.
• Exterior Cover: Fair. The original dark textured cloth covers show expected surface scuffing, edge rubbing, and heavy bumping/rounding to the board corners.
Interior Pages: Very Good. The internal text block remains unified and securely attached together. Pages are clean, flat, and remarkably legible for their tiny size. Note: Features a localized historic brown water/moisture stain to the lower outer corners of the preliminary pages, alongside natural light page-edge foxing, light handling smudges, and soft fraying/wear to the delicate corner tips as pictured. Complete with the vintage ink inscriptions on the endpapers.
Bonus Ephemera Included:
This listing includes the dictionary's original, homemade brown paper dust wrapper crafted by the owner to protect it during her school days. The outside features her handwritten replica pencil titles. Crucially, the interior reveals it was upcycled from a paper bag from Lionel Darlow Ltd. Sports Goods Specialists, 63 West Street (Near Royal Hospital), Sheffield 1 (Telephone: Sheffield 21559). Directly alongside the label, there is a vintage ink inscription reading: "The Principal, Lady Manners School, Bakewell." A stellar piece of localized Peak District and South Yorkshire educational social history.
