Item: 1969 Ideal Power Mite Jig Saw Vintage Toy Power Tool For Pretend Play

Released in 1969 by the Ideal Toy Corporation, the Power Mite Jig Saw (often stylized as Powermite) is a highly sought-after vintage toy collectible from a unique era of childhood play. Rather than just being a plastic toy for pretend play, it was part of a line of miniature, working power tools designed to mimic real workshop equipment

The Power Mite line allowed children to feel like they were building real projects just like adults. The jig saw actually functioned and could cut through very soft, safe materials provided in the sets, like 1/4-inch Styrofoam and thin balsa wood.

• • The Power Source: Each individual tool typically came in a bright yellow plastic carrying case. The genius of the design was that the case itself doubled as the battery compartment. Users would place two "D" cell batteries inside the bottom of the case, which featured a built-in miniature plug-in outlet. The tool’s power cord plugged directly into its own case or into the larger Power Mite Workshop Bench accessory.
• • The Blade: Unlike today's hyper-safe toys, these featured actual tiny moving metal components. The jig saw/sabre saw would rapidly move up and down to cleanly slice through the balsa wood or foam

Condition:  Untested, no blade, no power cord
