BBM Rookie Edition documents that exact season - his first as a professional, in the uniform he would wear for five years before anyone outside Japan was paying close attention. The reverse is worth reading even if you do not read Japanese. It lists him as a right-handed pitcher who bats left, notes 56 home runs across his high school career, and records that he struck out eleven in a loss at Koshien. The photograph beneath it is from the day he signed. Nothing on this card anticipates what he became; it simply describes a promising teenager, which is what makes it worth owning now.
