The King of Spain’s Declaration of War Against Great-Britain. Done at Buen Retiro, on the 28th of November. Signed by His Catholick Majesty; and lower, by Don Casimiro de Uztariz. In Spanish and English.
London: Printed for R. Amey, against Craig’s-Court, Charing-Cross, and in the Court of Requests, 1739.
An original 1739 London printing of King Philip V of Spain’s formal declaration of war against Great Britain, issued during the opening months of the War of Jenkins’ Ear (1739–1748).
This historically significant pamphlet reproduces the Spanish monarch’s declaration in both Spanish and English, documenting the diplomatic and military conflict between two of Europe’s principal imperial powers. The war centered largely on competing commercial and colonial interests in the Americas and Caribbean, eventually becoming part of the broader War of the Austrian Succession.
Printed in London for R. Amey and originally priced at sixpence, the pamphlet represents an important contemporary British publication of Spain’s declaration.
