This is a rare alto mouthpiece. When Selmer bought the Adolphe Sax workshop in 1928 and issued in the following years the Adolphe Sax (Selmer) altos and tenors in England, they included some mouthpieces manufactured by Adolphe Sax (son).
This mouthpiece plays very well on a smaller tip opening (around a Selmer C) with a focused, rich and flexible sound. It has a larger chamber but works also well on modern instruments. This mouthpiece is in completely original condition, it was part of a collection from a British saxophonist who stored this one away for display.
What amazes me is that it plays more modern (due to the facing curve) than the equivalent early Selmer mouthpieces for the Model 1922 and 1926. Needless to say, in the same way Selmer got some inspiration from the work and designs of the Adolphe Sax workshop, their improvements on their early Selmer mouthpieces leading up to the Air Flow. Comes with vintage Selmer ligature and cap
