This charming, Figural Christmas Tree Candle Clip measures approx. 2 1/4” tall and 1" wide at its widest point. It is made of tin and each side of the Clip features a simply fantastic, embossed, full figure Santa Claus wearing a long robe and a rather strange shaped cap. The surface is hand painted in green and silver color japanning. Santa holds what appears to be a large wooden club in his right hand and here is a doll hanging from his belt by a string.
The two figures of Santa are hinged together and between the two Santas there is a spring form candle holder. When the Clip is opened by applying pressure at the top of each side, the “jaws” at the bottom open so that the Clip can be attached upright on the branch of a Christmas Tree. In the late 19th and early 20th century, Christmas Trees were often decorated with lit candles and Figural Clips like the one offered here were used to attach the candles to the branches of the tree.
This original, 19th century, Figural Tin Christmas Tree Candle Clip is in very good condition. The Clip is intact and sound with no physical damage or repairs of any kind. The spring hinge is strong and the Clip functions as manufactured. The Christmas Tree Candle Clip retains approx. 50% of its original, surface japanning. Please see the scans below for a good representation of the form and condition of this charming Figural Christmas Tree Candle Clip / Holder.

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
