Description
An early 20th-century topographical postcard depicting St Paul's Church, Liverpool, Lancashire, as identified by the printed caption "St. Paul's Church, Liverpool".
The monochrome photographic image reproduced in print shows the church from across its grounds. The tall central spire rises above a square Gothic tower with louvred openings and decorative corner pinnacles. The main building has pointed stained-glass windows, buttresses and a large gabled end with an arched entrance.
Leafless trees frame the left of the view, with further trees to the right. Iron railings run across the foreground, separating the church grounds from the road.
The front bears the Valentine's Series name at the lower right. The reverse has an undivided layout headed "POST CARD." and the instruction "THE ADDRESS TO BE WRITTEN ON THIS SIDE." The left margin reads "Write here for Inland Postage only."
The address-only reverse is consistent with production during the early 1900s or earlier, before divided backs became standard for British inland postcards in 1902. The original photographic view is most likely from around the 1900s.
