History in your hand: this is the first US coin to show a sitting president. The US Mint issued the 2026 Donald J. Trump $1 coin, the first time a serving American president has appeared on a coin made for everyday use.
It was struck to mark America's 250th birthday. The coin is authorised under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which allows a new $1 coin for one year beginning 1 January 2026 to commemorate the Semiquincentennial. That makes it a one-year-only design.
Obverse: The portrait was designed by US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna from an official White House photograph by Daniel Torok. It carries the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and 1776 ~ 2026.
Reverse: The reverse shows the Presidential Seal, with the eagle holding an olive branch and arrows and a "250" set into the shield. It was designed and sculpted by former Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro.
