Macon, GA- The Macon & Western R.R. 50¢ Sep. 1, 1862
This railroad was the product of a foreclosure sale of the Monroe Railroad and Banking Company in 1845. The road finished the line to Atlanta in 1846 and was purchased by the Central Railroad and Banking Company of Georgia in 1872. Paper shortages plagued the South during the Civil War as evidenced by this rare 50¢ "fare ticket" which was printed on the back of Macon lottery tickets.
