An outstanding piece of Georgia Bulldogs fine art history with exceptional provenance!
Offered here is an authentic vintage offset lithographic print of Lamar Dodd’s celebrated painting, “Seven Tubas.” Originally executed in watercolor in 1963, this reproduction was commissioned and mailed directly to active members by the University of Georgia Alumni Society and Foundation in 1964. The dynamic composition captures the raucous pageantry and excitement of Band Day inside Sanford Stadium featuring the UGA Redcoat Marching Band.
Lamar Dodd (1909–1996) served as the longtime head of UGA’s art department and remains one of the American South's most distinguished modernists. In "Seven Tubas," Dodd employs dynamic cubist and abstract expressionist techniques, using rich golds, deep reds, and energetic brushwork to represent the gleaming brass and movement of seventy high school and collegiate bands.
Provenential Highlight: This print includes its rare, original 1964 cardboard shipping tube, complete with the official printed UGA Alumni Society / Foundation label made out to the original Atlanta recipient and retaining the original red 26¢ postage meter mark postmarked Athens, Georgia.

Condition Details
Vintage Condition with Storage Wear: This print remained stored rolled inside its original mailing tube for over 60 years, resulting in characteristic paper aging:
-
Reverse Side: Features prominent diagonal brown age-toning stripes transferred from long-term contact with the inner spiral wall of the cardboard mailing tube.
-
Paper & Margins: Shows soft vertical waving/creasing along the paper edges from being rolled, along with scattered foxing (small reddish-brown age spots) on the white borders and lower margin.
-
Main Image Area: Printed colors remain vibrant with strong visual appeal. The wide margins mean that standard custom matting and framing will conceal or soften much of the margin foxing and edge waving.
Please review all photos carefully using the zoom feature to evaluate exact margin condition, foxing, and dimensions.
A centerpiece acquisition for any Georgia Bulldogs alumni, UGA art enthusiast, or collector of Southern Modernism!
