The choice of framing to represent Lake Paranoá was guided by three central references to Brasília’s identity: the sky, the red earth, and the architecture. The sky, one of the city’s defining features, is depicted in the late afternoon, when the luminosity enhances its colors and vastness. The red earth represents the characteristic soil of the Central Plateau, while the architecture is symbolized by the bridge spanning Lake Paranoá. In the case of Lagoa dos Patos, compositional studies were developed with the ship and the Itapuã Lighthouse positioned both inside and outside the lagoon. In the version in which the lighthouse faces the interior of Lagoa dos Patos, its position was defined to approximately correspond to the actual location of the Itapuã Lighthouse, at the northern end of the lagoon. This solution was considered more appropriate, as it visually reinforces the lagoon character of Lagoa dos Patos and highlights one of its most distinctive geographical features.
