Vintage Julian Akers Douglas black wool + silk smocked dress.
A gorgeous piece from one of my favorite dressmakers (and is actually local to me as well)! Each of her pieces were made by hand so all are unique and one of a kind. This dress is made of a fine black wool with black silk ruffled collar, buttons, ribbon waist belt, and lining. Has hidden hand pockets at both sides of the waist. The armpit of the dress connects at a lower part of the body, so accommodates quite a bit of bust space.
Overall excellent vintage condition with very little wear. I would keep this but it’s not my size and would fit a larger size much better. I would recommend for a size medium at least. Shown on me 5’9 and a UK 8-10.

Pit to pit flat 16.25” - 17.5” has stretch from smocking
Waist flat (measured at bottom of smocking panel) 16.5” - 19” has stretch from smocking
