Antique leather rugby football dated 1911, featuring original lettering reading “Downing College Cambridge University.”

An interesting piece of early 20th-century British sporting history associated with Downing College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge, England.

Features traditional leather panel construction with stitched seams and laced opening. The ball retains its aged brown leather exterior, period construction, and faded original lettering.

Condition: Antique pre-owned condition with extensive age-related wear and deterioration throughout. The leather exhibits heavy crazing, cracking, surface wear, discoloration, and areas of deterioration. Stitching and lacing show age and wear, with loose threads visible. The ball is misshapen and has not been inflated or tested for air retention.

The only identifiable markings are the college name, university, and 1911 date. Exact original purpose and whether the ball was game-used or presented as a commemorative item are unknown.

Offered as an antique sporting collectible or historical display piece. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition, lettering, construction, and details.
