Description:
This beautiful soup/punch bowl features a simple yet stylish design, a signature characteristic of Art Deco aesthetics.
The Swiss coppersmith J. Mueller made it in St. Gallen, Switzerland in the late 1920s-early 1930s. It was designed under the direct influence of the Werkbund movement; the bowl features an elegant, rounded, bellied shape (Bauchform) meticulously hand-formed, as evidenced by the distinct hammered finish. The inside seems to be silver-plated, not tin-plated.
It is made of thick copper with chrome-plated handles and finial. Quite heavy. It is marked with a J. Mueller manufacturer's mark on the bottom of the bowl and on the handle. It could be used as a cooking pot as well as a soup or punch tureen. Or just as an antique decorative object.
The bowl is in great condition, with no damage or plating loss. Some minor uneven patination; it may need additional cleaning or polishing, depending on your preferences.
The bowl is 8.5" long from handle to handle, 7" tall to the top of the finial. The laddle is 9" long.
