The Sting Ray has been a long-standing part of Ernie Ball Music Man's lineup and remains a beloved, iconic model among players across a wide range of genres. This particular model, the Sting Ray HT, features a hardtail design, making it a more modern and accessible choice for contemporary players.
The neck shape is a slim, almost C-shape profile, and the narrow 41.3mm nut width provides a comfortable and secure grip, even for those with smaller hands. The fingerboard has a gentle 10"R radius, and the use of High Profile, Medium Width Stainless Steel Frets ensures it can handle modern, technical phrases effectively.
The wood construction consists of an alder body, roasted maple neck, and roasted maple fingerboard. The pickups are Music Man HT Humbuckers, known for their powerful sound and high output.
The pickups utilize heat-treated pole pieces and large ceramic magnets, making them ideal for modern Music Man guitars. This is one of Man's signature pickups.
In clean tones, you can enjoy its crisp, powerful sound, and its responsiveness to various controls allows for a wide range of expression. In overdrive mode, the clear sound ensures that each note is evenly reproduced, even within the high-gain Kei sound.
The condition shows some scratches, dents, and rust on parts due to age and use, but the frets show minimal wear, and the truss rod is functioning well, making it a ready-to-use instrument that can be enjoyed for years to come. This is a player-friendly guitar that offers the thick tone, excellent playability, and powerful sound characteristic of a hardtail design.
