Canon Canonflex RM + Super-Canomatic R 50mm f/1.8 — SOLD AS-IS
⚠ SOLD AS-IS — TWO FAULTS. PLEASE READ.
This camera is not a fully working example and is priced accordingly. Both faults are described here in full. Please buy only if you accept them.
FAULT 1 — The selenium light meter is dead.
The built-in selenium meter does not respond to light and the needle does not move. Selenium cells lose sensitivity with age and this one is exhausted. The meter cannot be used for exposure.
FAULT 2 — The mirror does not return at the two slowest speeds.
At the 1 second and 1/2 second settings the reflex mirror stays up after the exposure instead of returning instantly. It drops back down when you advance the film to the next frame.
IMPORTANT — the shutter itself is NOT at fault. We removed the lens and watched the shutter directly: at 1 sec and 1/2 sec the curtains open and close for the correct duration. This is the classic dried-lubricant fault on this model and a CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust) should correct it.
WHAT WORKS NORMALLY:
▪ Shutter speeds 1/4 to 1/1000 — mirror returns instantly as designed.
▪ Bulb (B) — works correctly.
▪ Slow-speed shutter timing — confirmed correct by direct observation.
▪ Trigger wind and film advance operate smoothly.
▪ Viewfinder is clear; focusing screen is clean and usable.
▪ Lens focus ring and aperture ring both turn correctly.
WE HAVE NOT RUN A FILM TEST and shutter speeds have not been measured with an electronic tester. Please judge from the photos and description.
Sold as-is for collectors, users who accept the above, repair or parts.
The camera is cosmetically beautiful, but because of the two faults above it is sold and priced As-Is. The grade in brackets refers to appearance only.
