Here’s one of the coolest things you’ll see today on the internet.

Masters of the Universe Unproduced Evil Horde Snake Men Original Concept Art Print

This piece comes from his personal collection of Ted Mayer.

Ted Mayer is a veteran industrial designer who served as a foundational architect of the physical world of Mattel's Masters of the Universe (MOTU) toy line. Ted was brought into the project during its initial development by his friend and fellow designer Mark Taylor. Ted Mayer played a critical role in standardizing the franchise's signature blend of barbarian fantasy and advanced technology. Mayer spearheaded the layout, construction, development, and design of many of the vehicles, accessories, figures, and massive environments that defined the planet Eternia and the Masters of the Universe toyline.

This unique piece was created for internal development of the original Masters of the Universe line of action figures.

Original blue diazo line print featuring a trio of snake and creature-driven weapons in this original design group.

The first combines a long rifle-like body with a bladed axe head, hooked grips, a sighting assembly, and an emblem worked into the upper blade.

A second coils a green serpent around a central shaft terminating in a dragon-like head, turning the weapon itself into a living threat.

The final design joins a broad sword blade with axe edges, a clawed guard, and a small red creature wrapped around the grip.

The serpent-entwined staff reflects an idea that became popular when the Snake Men figures were put into production.

The bottom right of the page is marked “Bad Horde”, “Ted Mayer”, copyright “Mattel” and “1984”.

Measures approximately 22” x 17”.

Dates from the 1984.

Some of these weapon designs influences some of the weapons they went into production and some of these designs were going to be used for a line of Snake Men / Evil Horde characters that were slated to be released in 1988 by Mattel for the Masters of the Universe toyline, but were ultimately never produced.

It’s really incredible.

This is the stuff of legend. Seeing these designs in person is nothing short of mind blowing.

Very Good condition (see pics). Exhibits overall toning, scattered discoloration, creasing, and edge and corner wear, including a small loss at the upper-left corner and minor tears along the margins. Overall looks very good.

Displays very well.

Comes with proof of authenticity including all paperwork from the original sale.

A truly incredible piece that was designed for the Masters of the Universe toyline, but that was ultimately never produced. This type of artwork is the stuff of legend and until pieces like this surfaced from Ted Mayer’s personal collection the Bizarro Playset was essentially just a myth.

This piece is truly remarkable. The detail of this piece really needs to be seen in person, the photos don’t do it justice.

Needless to say there won’t be anyone else with this in their collection. An incredible relic from the development
