Antique & Vintage Photographs

This is a 35mm transparency / slide.

It shows a Westland Wessex helicopter, serial XR501, in yellow Royal Air Force search and rescue colours, parked on a concrete apron at Greenham Common, Berkshire. The fuselage is lettered 'Royal Air Force Rescue' beside an RAF roundel, with 'RAF Rescue' on the nose and the serial repeated on the tail boom. The helicopter is seen in profile with its rotor blades stationary, and a badge is visible on the tail fin. Other helicopters and aircraft are parked in the background under an overcast sky. The mount is handwritten in blue ink 'Wessex XR501 RAF Rescue' at the top and 'Greenham Common 26-6-81' below the image. The mount also carries the printed words 'Made in England' and 'View from this side', which read in reverse from this side, a printed frame number '14', and an embossed processing date 'Jul 81'.
