Harold Edmund Hackett's 1969 Duke University dissertation on marine algae of the Maldive Islands, issued here as an authorized 1971 microfilm-xerographic facsimile by University Microfilms (a Xerox Company), Ann Arbor. This is a period scholarly reproduction, not the original manuscript or an autographed first edition.

The story

Hackett's research documents the marine algal flora and ecology of tropical atoll habitats in the Maldives, drawing on work related to the International Indian Ocean Expedition and the 1964 Te Vega scientific voyages. The full dissertation has lasting bibliographical importance to the study of Maldivian phycology and historical coral-reef ecosystems. This is a specialized research text, not a general illustrated travel or natural-history book.
