Léopold Lelée Set of 8 Art Nouveau postcards. Scenes from the Life of Jesus Christ

An original set of 8 Art Nouveau postcards. Unposted.

A lovely set by the French painter and illustrator Léopold Lelée (1872-1947)

Each card depicts a scene from the New Testament with a Gospel chapter and verse reference and a short bible text in French. On each card, Jesus’s halo is printed in silver.

The 8 scenes depicted are: Jesus overturning the dove sellers tables in the temple (Matthew 21.12), the disciples leading the ass (Mark 11.7) , Jesus healing the lame and the blind (Matthew 21.14), Jesus weeping over Jerusalem as he approaches (Luke 19.41), Jesus overturning the money changers tables in the temple (Matthew 21.12), People crying Hosanna as Jesus enters Jerusalem (Matthew 21.9), Jesus throwing out traders from the temple (Matthew 21.12) and People laying palms on the road as Jesus enters Jerusalem (Matthew 21.8).

The cards in the set are in good overall condition. Two have darkened a little, and some have very minor tip wear.

A rare set.
