In the late Fifties and early Sixties, horror movies had a huge surge of popularity, thanks to late night TV showings of classic movies. This spawned the creation of multiple newsstand magazines dedicated to the genre. The best known of these was Famous Monsters of Filmland, but another, more eccentric title was Castle of Frankenstein. CoF covered much the same territory as Famous Monsters (the classic Universal movies, plus current stuff released by Hammer and by American International), but CoF ventured into other areas, such as TV science fiction, books, and even comics, long before serious treatment of those fields became commonplace. Castle of Frankenstein was published irregularly but had a dedicated following, and usually included some provocative material - they even published a negative review of the original Star Trek TV series! By the early Seventies, they were publishing interviews with underground movie filmmakers, reviews of trends in comic books, and other oddball material. Castle of Frankenstein remains one of the most highly regarded magazines of its time.
Here I have Castle of Frankenstein #16, dated July 1971. This issue has an illustrated story by Bernie Wrightson, as well as various short features on current movies and TV shows. It's in very nice condition overall, with no major flaws - see scans for condition. This would be a terrific addition to any collection!
