Colette’s autobiographical La Maison de Claudine appears here in a 1931 Ferenczi illustrated printing, with original woodcuts by Clément Serveau.
Originally published in 1922, Colette’s sequence of childhood memories and family portraits was issued in an illustrated form in the Le Livre Moderne Illustré series. The photographed title page of this particular copy gives the Roman-numeral date MCMXXXI, meaning 1931, so it must not be described as the frequently listed 1923 illustrated issue. It is bound in brown cloth-backed marbled boards, and retains a New York bookseller label for G. E. Stechert & Co. and Alfred Hafner. Folded period advertising and a printed French clipping are inserted; neither should be treated as part of the original publication without further evidence.
Cloth-backed marbled boards with slight rubbing, moderate interior toning; earlier pencil/ink notes faint; original publisher's wrappers not visible; inserted loose ephemera. Verify pagination and whether original wrappers are bound in.
The photos show the copy offered.
Shipping: USPS Media Mail, carefully packed (about 1 lb 12 oz, 11.5 × 8.5 × 3.5 in).
