Its side-cutting mechanism cuts around the outside rim of the can rather than through the top, helping leave a smoother edge. The opener also stays out of contact with the food inside the can, and the lid can be lifted away using the built-in mini pliers.

Position the opener on the rim of the can and turn the knob clockwise. The opener automatically grips the lid and begins cutting around the side of the rim. Once you have completed a full circle and resistance decreases, stop turning. Turn the knob counterclockwise to release, then use the built-in mini pliers to lift the lid.
Wash by hand in warm, soapy water and dry completely before storing.
IMPORTANT: This opener does not cut through the top of the can like a traditional can opener. It cuts around the side of the lid rim, so the can may not immediately look open after turning. Use the built-in lid-lifting pliers to remove the lid.
