The violin is attributed to Emanuel Adam Homolka (1796–1849), an important nineteenth-century Bohemian violin maker who trained under the distinguished Prague maker Kašpar Strnad (1752–1823). Homolka established his own workshop in Velvary and became the founder of a recognised Czech violin-making dynasty.
My late husband specialised in Bohemian instruments and identified this violin as an E. A. Homolka. He began a substantial restoration, but the work remains unfinished. The violin is dismantled and requires further professional restoration, including work to the edging.
