Rare and highly dramatic antique German chromolithograph by Th. Breidwieser, depicting an action-filled Rhinoceros Hunting scene, dating approximately to the late 19th century, c.1885.

The composition portrays a dangerous big-game hunt in a tropical landscape. A large rhinoceros charges through the center of the scene as a mounted hunter on a white horse attempts to escape its attack. Additional hunters and attendants armed with period rifles and spears surround the animals, while further rhinoceroses and mounted figures appear in the background.

The dramatic movement of the rearing horse, charging rhinoceros, armed hunters and tropical vegetation makes this an especially striking example of 19th-century sporting and wildlife chromolithographic art.
