Peter & His Friends
Laminated Art Print on Beveled Wood Plaque Support
11" x 8" x 1"
Signed in print lower right
This vintage laminated wood art plaque features "Peter & His Friends" by renowned Canadian Ojibwe artist Norval Morrisseau (1932-2007), the grandfather of the contemporary Indigenous Woodland School of Art. Morrisseau's distinctive style utilizes bold black outlines, interior x-ray divisions, and vibrant segmented coloring depicting a figure interacting with birds and waterfowl, grounded in traditional Ojibwe cosmology and spiritual narratives.
• Laminated presentation mounted to beveled wooden plaque with gold-tone edge trim
• Produced circa mid-1970s by Canada Plaque Ltd. of Port Moody, British Columbia
• Reverse features original biographical text sheet detailing Morrisseau's career and exhibitions
• Keyhole hanging slot routed directly into the reverse for flush wall mounting
Condition: Good vintage condition overall. Surface shows light toning and age-related spots across the cream background, along with a small sticker remnant near the top border. Reverse biographical paper shows edge loss and handling wear, while the wood plaque remains structurally sound.
