The final evolution of the Type 51 was the Type 59 itself. This would turn out to be the final Bugatti racer of the 1930s, and the Type 59 first appeared in 1934. It was powered by an enlarged 3.3-litre straight-eight engine, an upgraded version of the straight-eight found in the Bugatti Type 57, and 250hp was on tap.

This 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Racer is finished in a Dark Green notably used by British Bugatti racers of the period. It wears its race number 8, but this one has been hidden away for many years in its lock-up and could now do with some restoration.

Burago models in this 1/18 scale are amazingly detailed but unfortunately are painted over and the detail is hidden.

 

However, over a period of around one week the model is completely stripped down and brought to life. With great attention to detail, all parts - including the bodywork, chassis, suspension, wheels, tyres, interior, even nuts and bolts, and a detailed engine bay - are airbrushed or hand painted and then sealed in. Rust, mud, dirt, wear and tear and petrol stains are added along the way to re-create the look of a barn find, or just old and unloved.

And finally, to complete the build, it is fitted with its own individual set of British period-correct number plates.

This model measures 25cm in length.
