A opportunity to acquire an early work by Teruaki Nakade, one of Japan's most respected classical guitar luthiers. This is the No.400, built circa 1970 — placing it squarely in the period shortly after Nakade returned from Spain and established his independent workshop in 1966.
Teruaki Nakade is the son of the legendary Japanese luthier Sakuzo Nakade, under whom he trained before traveling to Spain in 1964. There, he became the first Japanese apprentice of the master luthier Hernandez y Aguado, absorbing the finest traditions of Spanish classical guitar construction. The guitars he produces are known for their strong tonal core, clarity, and aristocratic resonance — hallmarks of the Spanish school.
At the time of its manufacture, this guitar was priced at a level equivalent to a new university graduate's monthly salary in Japan — indicating it was a premium or custom-class instrument. The early 1970s represent Nakade's formative independent period, with limited production numbers, making surviving examples genuinely scarce.
After 56 years of natural aging and drying, the spruce top and rosewood body have developed a synergistic resonance. The guitar produces a deep, rich tone with sharp responsiveness — the hallmark of a well-aged, high-quality instrument.
This guitar is in age-appropriate used condition. Please note the following:
