Professionally restored RCA 45 RPM record player, model 9-ED-1JF from 1957. This record player uses RCA's RP208 two speed record changer. With the 45 RPM spindle installed, the user can stack up to 12 records and the changer will play each one automatically. After the last record is played, the tonearm is manually lifted to end play. Just like RCA's RP190 changers, there is no auto shutoff.
This record player also has the capability of playing 33 1/3 RPM records. There is no record stacking option for LP's. Start the record player with an LP on the turntable platter and the tonearm will land at the start of the record. After playing, the record will replay untill the tonearm is manually lifted.
Record players using the RCA RP208 changer are quite rare as they were produced only for a short time. Even rarer is finding one with the original carry case as this was an option that few buyers chose.
Condition and restoration details:
The record changing mechanism was completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, reassembled, lubricated, adjusted and tested. A new idler wheel and motor mounts have been installed. The 45 spindle has received a complete restoration service also. This RP 208 changer now works as reliably as it did when it was new.
The original 2 tube amplifier has been improved with the addition of a 12SQ7 tube for improved sound with plenty of room filling volume. The amp has been completely rebuilt with all new capacitors and resistors. A new AC power cord has been installed. The tubes test good.
A new stereo cartridge with diamond needle has been installed and will safely play both stereo and mono records. With a tonearm tracking force of just 4 grams, this phonograph will be kind to your records. The original speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great.
The plastic record player cabinet is in very good condition with no chips or cracks and still shows a nice glossy shine. There are a few deep scratches, most of which are in the back of the unit. There are also some fine scratches and blemishes throughout, consistent with an item of this age.
The carry case was stripped of the old covering material and hardware and then repaired to be structurally sound. It was then expertly re-covered with new vinyl Tolex, the same material used on custom guitar amplifiers. Tolex is both beautiful and durable. All new hardware was then installed. The handle is original.
This is a rare and beautiful record player that sounds fantastic. Please examine the photos to see the fine craftsmanship that went into this exquisite restoration.
