Ausstattung:

Laut Ibanez-Katalog Japan 1990: Saber-Routing-Mahagonikorpus, Low-Profile-Pickup-Montage.

Zustand: Die Bünde sind nahezu neuwertig. Frisch eingestellt, neue Saiten.

Description (EN)

Among Ibanez collectors, 1989 is considered part of the “Golden Age of Ibanez”. This Ibanez Roadstar Pro 540S-LPF in Lipstick Red (serial number F932692, made in 1989) is a fine example: built 37 years ago by FujiGen in Japan, it hardly shows its age. The 540S-LPF was sold only in Japan and only in 1989 and 1990. This is a first-year example. It was the basis for Frank Gambale’s first signature model, the 1991 FGM100. The overall condition is very well kept, with only the wear listed below.

I bought this guitar second-hand in 2010 during a holiday in Tokyo, in the Shibuya district. I recognised it as an S-series (also known as “Saber”), but something about the guitar fascinated me when I saw how the pickups were mounted. As it was also in astonishingly good condition (you couldn’t tell it was second-hand), I went for it. I was living in Taiwan at the time, so the flight home was short. At first I assumed it was made in 1999, but then I noticed that the serial number is missing a digit. That fits the 1987 to 1996 scheme (F + last digit of the year + running number), so the 9 stands for 1989. I then found the model in the Ibanez Wiki. I have been playing RGs for ages, so this guitar has hardly been played. That’s why I’m offering this special piece for sale here.

Specs:

According to the 1990 Japanese Ibanez catalog: Saber-routed mahogany body, low-profile pickup mounting.

Condition: The frets are nearly new. Freshly set up with new strings. The pickup selector switch was replaced with a new one by Schloff Guitars in Kiel. On 11 October 2026 I checked the pots, pickup selector (all five positions), tremolo and locking nut; in my own testing they work as intended (see video). I am not aware of any defects other than those listed here. These statements are based on my own testing as a long-time guitarist; I am not a certified appraiser.
