Vintage Japanese Natural Horagai Conch Shell Trumpet Shugendo Metal Mouthpiece

This is a vintage Japanese horagai, a natural conch shell trumpet fitted with a metal mouthpiece. It was traditionally used as a ritual signaling instrument by Yamabushi (mountain ascetics) in Shugendo practices.

The shell features intricate spiral patterns with cream and brown striped tones on the polished exterior, while the interior opening reveals natural pinkish-orange hues. The apex of the shell is fitted with a firmly attached brass-colored metal mouthpiece secured with lacquer.

Width: 23.0 cm / 9.05 in
Depth: 9.5 cm / 3.74 in

The item is in vintage condition, showing signs of aging. The natural shell exhibits minor surface wear, inherent natural lines, and small variations along the edge. The metal mouthpiece shows aged patina.
