David Bowie, Romford Odeon, London, May 22nd 1973
Original Concert Program & Ticket, Ziggy Stardust UK Tour
LOT DESCRIPTION, PLEASE READ
In early 1973 David Bowie was at a massive creative crossroads. This early 1973 Ziggy Stardust UK tour program perfectly reflects the era featuring Ziggy Stardust photographs alongside a brand new double page promotional photograph taken during the historic Aladdin Sane session by photographer Brian Duffy - a shoot that would go on to define the Aladdin Sane era.
By the time Bowie kicked off the final leg of his UK tour at Earls Court on May 12th 1973, the later full colour program had officially debuted.
However, overwhelming fan demand caused immediate shortages during the opening fortnight. To keep up with the crowd surges, venue merchandisers relied heavily on remaining stock of this early edition.
On Tuesday, May 22nd 1973, a Bowie fan walked into the Odeon Theatre in Romford, bought this exact program and tucked it away in their jacket pocket alongside their £1.80 stalls ticket.
With the original ticket stub still with the program this collection serves as a remarkable time capsule of the day.
The Romford gig kicked off a run of highly anticipated London dates and because of the theater's proximity to Bowie's own South London roots, he delivered an incredibly dramatic and intimate show.
