GEORG TIEFENBRUNNER 19th Century Romantic Guitar c.1850 Munich Germany

Key Features

• ✔ A genuine 19th-century Romantic guitar bearing a surviving GEORG TIEFENBRUNNER label. The maker was based in Munich, Germany, and is also associated with violin making. The label includes the date 1842, which may refer to the maker’s establishment; the guitar itself is estimated to date from around 1850 to the later 1850s. Its materials have not been identified, and many or possibly all of its parts are believed to be original.
• ✔ The instrument has a narrow-feeling neck and is described by the as comfortable to play. It is in visibly worn, aged condition, with numerous marks and signs of age. The nut slots are deep and the action is very low; the sixth string buzzes in some positions. Some tuning pegs are loose, though tuning is reported to remain possible. The strings are deteriorated and should be replaced. The advises against using modern strings at modern pitch. A tailpiece is fitted, allowing the guitar to be played standing. Includes an old, slightly oversized case from another 19th-century guitar; the case has wear and dirt, and its latches are somewhat loose, so it is best considered protective packing rather than a secure storage case.
